First Official Shelter Home for Dogs; In Lahore, work began on the first government shelter home for stray dogs. The first official shelter home for stray dogs in Lahore is about to be built. Last year, the Punjab government approved a plan to adopt stray dogs rather than kill them, with an initial budget of Rs 74 million set aside for the purpose.
The project will sterilise 230,000 stray dogs across Punjab. The project had been stalled for several months, owing to a lack of a facility to house the dogs captured for sterilisation for a few days before and after the procedure. However, the Livestock Department has identified an 8-kanal area in Rak Chand Rai where the first dog shelter will be established.
